Mike Madaio, local author of Lost Mount Penn; Wineries, Railroads and Resorts of Reading will be at our special guest at market (weather permitting.)  Did you know that in the mid 19th century, German immigrants established Berks County, PA as a renowned area for native wines, helping Reading become one of the top summer resort destinations in the country?
Stop by market to purchase an autographed copy of his book and chat.  Cash or Venmo accepted.

“Brawta” is the word in Jamaican patios that means “giving a little extra” much a like the “baker’s dozen” concept. BRAWTA REGGAE MUSIC! promises to dig deeper into a vast musical reggae collection – and provide music lovers with a “likkle bit more” whenever his micro sound system plays for the people!

Inspired by the sound system culture from JA, UK and around the world, Dan spent much of his pandemic lockdown time organizing and exploring his vast reggae music archive. He has curated and selected prime cuts that he plans to deliver through his own “micro” sound system. He hopes that he can share the variety, sonic power and life affirming message of reggae music in the streets, back yard parties, smaller venues, and festivals around the Delaware Valley and beyond.

It was the Spring of 1986, when Brawta Reggae Music’s sole proprietor and selector, Dan Poruban first heard Bob Marley’s “Legend” LP blaring from a dorm room at Albright College. Like many young Americans, his first introduction to reggae music was Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Toots and the Maytals, etc. After that initial primer, Dan dove head first into the depths of the reggae music ocean – from ska, rock steady, early reggae, roots, dub and contemporary dancehall. The result of his passion has led him to amassing a staggering collection of reggae music over the past 30 years.
